Alberta’s leading Bantam AAA scorer this past season is this year’s top pick in the 2016 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
The Kootenay Ice took Peyton Krebs with the No. 1 pick in the draft held in Calgary starting at 8:30 a.m. MT on Thursday. Krebs, a native of Okotoks, scored 102 points — 46 goals and 56 assists — in 27 regular-season games played for the De Winton-based Rocky Mountain Raiders, who won this year’s Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League title.
And in fact, it was 1-2-3 for Alberta off the top of the draft.
The Saskatoon Blades took forward Kirby Dach of the midget Fort Saskatchewan Rangers with the No. 2 pick and the Vancouver Giants selected defenceman Bowen Byram of the bantam Lethbridge Golden Hawks at No. 3.
