After making franchise history, the Okotoks Oilers completed the regular season atop the AJHL Standings with a record of 52-6-2 and 106 points. Leading the league with the most wins, fewest loses, most points, most goals for (270), fewest goals against (132) , and round out the season on a 24 game winning streak … one could say we have had an amazing season already. But it is far from over!!
The Oilers Team, Staff, Volunteers, and Parents gathered last night at Cardel Place Amphitheatre to show recognition for the successes this club has had to date. There was lots of discussion on how far the Organization has come and how fortunate our 2017-18 roster is to be apart of history in making right here in Okotoks. We then took a moment to formally acknowledge certain individuals for their exceptional commitment during the 2017-18 Regular Season.

Cathy Wedderburn and her son Tim presented the Greg Wedderburn Memorial Trophy to our 2017-18 Team Caption Carter Huber. This award is presented annually to the player who demonstrates the drive, dedication, and determination to be the best they can be, both on and off the ice. Combined with taking pride in being an Oiler, this individual shows strong leadership and the desire to succeed. All of which are components of what this prestigious award is all about. Congratulations to Carter for receiving this honor.
We also took a moment to recognize our Volunteer of the Year in John Gerlitz. John has been an integral part of our Organization for many years. John started off several years ago, as a member of our Friends of the Oilers fundraising group. Most recently you will find John lending a hand in our Rig Stop pouring beer and cocktails for our fans each and every night. We would like to thank John for his commitment and passion for our organization.
On behalf of the entire Okotoks Oilers Organization, we would like to thank all our staff, players, parents, billets families, and volunteers for a tremendous start to the season. Once again, congratulations to all the award winners. We look forward to what lies ahead in the post season. Good Luck Boys on your drive to the RBC Cup!!
