AJHL Playoffs Postponed

As many of you are aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced sports leagues around the globe to cancel upcoming events and put seasons on hold indefinitely.  Hockey Canada, and all teams under their umbrella, have been directed to postpone all play effective March 13, 2020.  This umbrella includes the Alberta Junior Hockey League.  The result of this decision means the Okotoks Oilers previously announced Round #2 games, will not be played as scheduled.

“Without question, this is an unprecedented period of difficulty for the sports world,” commented Tom Renney, Hockey Canada’s chief executive officer, and Scott Smith, president and chief operating officer for Hockey Canada in a joint statement. “The health and safety of all participants in sport, including players, coaches, staff, officials, fans, family, volunteers and the general public, is of the utmost importance to Hockey Canada.”

“After much consultation with the Hockey Canada membership, our chief medical officer and public health officials, the Hockey Canada Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel all Hockey Canada-sanctioned activities, including our national championships, until further notice.”

As of this point, there has been no announcement of any potential return dates from Hockey Canada or the Alberta Junior Hockey League in particular.  We are optimistic that after a two week pause, that we will have the opportunity to watch some Okotoks Oilers playoff action.

At this time, no refunds are being issued and no tentative dates are being set.  Any tickets purchased in advance – whether playoff package tickets or single-game tickets – will be honoured upon the announcement of future games.
