OKOTOKS, AB (September 2, 2023) — 2007-born forward Brayden Gourley (Calgary, AB) scored twice, but the Okotoks Oilers fell 4-3 on Saturday night in front of a healthy preseason crowd of just under 700 to the visiting Calgary Canucks.
A Sam Huck (Calgary, AB) shorthanded goal was the only marker of a dominant first period for Okotoks that saw them outshoot Calgary 18-4.
Dylan Bidyk tied it for the visitors 7:29 into the second before Gourley’s first made it a 2-1 game for the home side on a net front one-timer.
After Ty Hipkin tied it again for the Canucks early in the third, Gourley’s second came on a rebound to make it 3-2 Oilers.
But Calgary got goals from Easton Inglis and Bowden Singleton down the stretch to take the 4-3 final.
Despite having only two power plays to Calgary’s six, Okotoks still outshot the Canucks 40-21 in the game. Starting goalie Shane Shelest (Pointe-Claire, PQ) made 14 saves on 15 shots in the opening two periods.
The Oilers will next travel to Brooks on Tuesday night for their third preseason matchup.
