Come out and join the Okotoks Oilers and special guest speaker, Clint Malarchuk as he shares his life stories surrounding mental health awareness.  One of the most sought after dinner speakers in North America, Malarchuk a former 12 year NHL veteran and then NHL coach was fortunate to survive one of the most gruesome hockey injuries captured on national television in 1989.  This Buffalo Sabres Goalie was fortunate enough to have healed from his injury, and actually played again that season.  However, it took many years to recover and heal from the mental trauma sustained from that skate blade slicing across his neck.  Malarchuk will share his internal suffering, battle with alcoholism, anxiety, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and an attempted suicide that almost ended his life.

The Okotoks Oilers are fortunate to be partnering with Clint Malarchuk and adding in creating awareness for the overall mental health of our athletes.  Following dinner, Malarchuk will speak openly about his mental health battles throughout childhood and then into adulthood, and walk us through his journey taken for him to finally conquer his demons.  “The Cowboy Goalie” is a candid speaker, who is both motivational and inspiring.  Everyone will leave with the hope and inspiration for those who suffer from any form of mental health issues.
