OKOTOKS, AB (April 18, 2022) ““ After a hugely impactful season with the Okotoks Oilers, 2001-born goaltender Jack McNaughton (Calgary, AB) has committed to attend and play for the University of Western Ontario beginning next season, the team announced today.
Located in London, Ontario, the Western Mustangs compete in the Ontario University Athletics conference of USports, under 23rd-year head coach Clarke Singer.
“Jack exceeded all of our expectations this season,” said Oilers head coach and general manager Tyler Deis. “His play on the ice speaks for itself, but his experience and character benefitted our entire group as well. As a staff, we”™re extremely happy to see him commit to a top tier Canadian university program to continue his athletic and academic careers.”
Signing with the Oilers in late November, McNaughton was key to a turnaround that saw the team charge its way to a fourth consecutive AJHL South Final appearance. He posted a 14-9-3 record in 27 games, with a .906 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average, in addition to four shutouts.
He was one of four finalists for the AJHL”™s Top Goaltender award, and was named the team”™s Most Valuable Player for the 2021-22 season.
In the playoffs, McNaughton added a 7-4 record with a .911 save percentage and 2.74 GAA.
Prior to joining the Oilers, McNaughton played in 87 games for the Western Hockey League”™s Calgary Hitmen, posting a 46-24-8 record with an .884 save percentage and 3.32 goals against average.
