The Okotoks Oilers would like to thank Big Rock School and St Mary's School for inviting the players to participate in Literacy Week 2014. Literacy Week is a nation-wide initiative with the sole purpose of reaffirming the importance of reading to children as a part of their early development.
National Literacy Day was created in 1999 and the campaign has grown and grown to the point where it became an entire week. Even just 15 minutes a day of reading to your children can improve their literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.
Other reading guests this week included country singer George Canyon and former Associate Editor of the Western Wheel, John Barlow.
