Lloydminster comeback sinks Oilers, 3-2 on Sunday

LLOYDMINSTER, SK (February 13, 2022) ““ The Okotoks Oilers saw another strong start slip away on Sunday afternoon, as the host Lloydminster Bobcats scored three consecutive goals in the third period to erase a 2-0 Okotoks lead and claim a 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon.

Outshooting the home side 22-18 in the opening two frames, the Oilers saw Riley Bodnarchuk (Okotoks, AB) key the early offence, as his point shot was tipped in by Connor Gourley (Calgary, AB) at the 19:33 mark of the first for the opening goal, and he himself scored on a perfectly placed crossbar-and-down wrister from the point 17 seconds into the second for a 2-0 lead.

But penalty trouble and strong play from the host Bobcats turned the tide in the third period, in which the Oilers were outshot 13-8. Matthew Swanson converted on a double minor power play after a high sticking call against the Oilers, tallying at 6:59 to make it 2-1, before Mack Stewart tied the game onto 31 seconds later.

The Oilers were then called for too many men on the ice with 2:39 left in the game, allowing Ethan Aucoin to score the game-winner at the 18:09 mark to seal the regulation victory for the home side.
