Oiler alumnus Holloway named Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist

OKOTOKS, AB (March 17, 2021) ““ Okotoks Oilers alumnus Dylan Holloway (Bragg Creek, AB) has been named one of the 10 finalists for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, honoring the top player in U.S. college hockey.

Holloway, 19, is the second-ever Oiler to make the award”™s top ten list, after Corban Knight (Oliver, B.C.) did the same in 2013 while playing for the University of North Dakota.

In his sophomore season at the University of Wisconsin, Holloway recorded 34 points (11 goals, 23 assist) in just 22 games, being named to the 2021 All-Big Ten First Team, as well as Hockey Commissioners’ Association National Player of the Month in February. He ranked fourth in all of college hockey in scoring, and third in points-per-game.  

He also scored a goal and an assist in six games for Team Canada at the 2021 World Junior Championship in Edmonton, claiming a silver medal.

A first round, 14th-overall pick of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2020 NHL Draft, Holloway spent his two-season junior career in Okotoks, recording 115 points (51 goals, 64 assists) in 83 games with the organization. He is the franchise”™s all-time leader in points per game among alumni with at least one full season played, averaging 1.39 PPG.

Holloway was named CJHL Player of the Year in his final season with the Oilers in 2018-19, while also capturing a gold medal at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, winning the AJHL”™s Most Valuable Player award, and being named to its South All-League Team.

In his debut campaign in 2017-18, he was named to the league”™s South All-Rookie Team, while also winning a gold medal with Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge.

The Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced on April 9th, after the finalists are reduced to three on April 1st.
