Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are proud to announce that 1998 forward, Kyle Gordon (Cochrane, AB) has committed to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns for the 2019-2020 U-Sports Season.
Located in Lethbridge, Alberta the Pronghorns play in the U-Sports Canada West Division under 2nd Year Head Coach Murray Nystrom. The Pronghorns have been a part of the CIS/U-Sport Canada West since 1995-1996 and are coming off an appearance in this past Canada West Quarter Finals.
Gordon, 20, finished his three-year AJHL career in an injury shortened regular season with 38 points (14 goals, 24 assists) in 46 games played but lead the team in scoring during the 2019 Inter Pipeline Cup Playoffs with 18 points (7 goals, 11 assists) in 14 games.
In his time with the Oilers, Gordon grew and flourished in the team?s leadership group, becoming an alternate captain in 2017-2018 and was named team captain for the 2018-19 season.
Kyle has made his mark in the Oiler record books being ranked 10th in all-time points with 126 (45 goals, 81 assists) in 147 games donning the Green & Gold, and 9th in team assists. Rounding out his junior hockey career Kyle was named the AJHL Most Dedicated Player for the 2018-19 season.
Oilers Head Coach/ General Manager / Director of Hockey Development Tyler Deis says you couldn?t ask for a better leader on and off the ice in Gordon.
?We knew we had a special player when we recruited him from the Strathmore CFR Bisons. Kyle came to us, after competing in the Telus Cup, with lots of years of playoff experience and leadership,? he says. ?Gordon was captain material right from day one and it was on full display during his time here with the Oilers Organization.?
A two-time winner of the Greg Wedderburn Oiler Award and a 2018-19 RBC Community Ambassador for the AJHL, Gordon?s commitment to giving back to the community combined with his great leadership presence are testaments to Kyle?s character and the kind of player he was on and off the ice. ?Gordon was on top of his dedication to making our locker room and community a better place, he took the team on his back during this year?s playoff run. The Pronghorns are getting an incredible talent,? said Deis.
The Oilers would like to congratulate Kyle and his family on his achievement and to thank him for his team involvement both on and off the ice, as well as his dedication to our organization and our community.
Gordon is the 6th Oiler on the 2018-19 roster to commit to a post-secondary institution.
