OKOTOKS, AB (October 6, 2023) — Brett Huxley (Calgary, AB), Dean Spak (Calgary, AB), and Rylan Brown (Edmonton, AB) all scored in the third period to cue an Okotoks Oilers comeback to force overtime, but a goal by Adam Raesler was the only one in the shootout, as the Drumheller Dragons stole the extra point in Okotoks on Friday night.
Okotoks outshot their opposition 36-17 in the game but were again stymied by a stellar goaltending performance from Drumheller starter Jameson Kaine.
The Dragons opened the scoring in the first when Aidan Larose finished off a 2-on-1 pass from Kai Matthew. In the second, Raesler scored to double the lead on a net front shot set up by a centering pass from the end wall.
The Oilers’ breakthrough came when Huxley muscled home a rebound goal on the power play to cut the deficit to one. But moments later, Connor Poffenroth hammered home a loose puck from the slot to make it 3-1. But a shorthanded breakaway goal by Dean Spak and a rebound goal from Rylan Brown with just over two minutes left forced the extra frame.
Kaine stopped all three Okotoks shooters he faced while Raesler’s goal stood up as the winner to give the visitors the two points.
Okotoks will continue its four-game homestand on Monday with a matinee game against Grande Prairie at 4:15 PM. Tickets are free for all youth 22 and under, and fans are invited to skate with the Oilers following the game. Tickets are available at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
