CANMORE, AB (January 1, 2022) ““ The Okotoks Oilers came back from an early 1-0 deficit, but saw an eventual lead evaporate en route to a 3-2 overtime loss to the host Canmore Eagles on Saturday night.
After falling behind on a breakaway goal by Canmore”™s Kyle Young 2:10 into the game, the Oilers responded on a Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) shorthanded goal at the 13:08 mark to tie the game up after a period in which they outshot their hosts 13-6.
In the second, the Oilers outshot the Eagles 13-9 but again the scoring was even, as Okotoks went ahead on a Nolan Flint (Beaverlodge, AB) shot from the slot at 11:54, but lost the lead on an Ethan Schaeffer shorthanded breakaway goal at 17:49.
A scoreless third period saw the Oilers get outshot 10-7, and saw goalie Jack McNaughton (Calgary, AB) make a highlight reel save on a 2-on-1 by the Eagles in the final minute to force overtime. But less than a minute into the extra frame, the Eagles converted on a cross-slot pass on a 2 on 1 to Kayden Smith for the overtime winner.
