In an AJHL Showcase game that featured 25 power plays split between the two teams, the Okotoks Oilers fell to 5-2 on the year with a 5-2 loss to the Brooks Bandits on Saturday night.
Okotoks went 2-for-13 on the man advantage while Brooks converted on 2-of-12.
Brooks scored twice in the first off a Danylo Korzhyletskyi backdoor tap-in at 11:20, before Nicholas DeGraves doubled the lead on a power play point shot at 15:18.
In the second, a too many men call against the Oilers led to the eventual game-winner when Caelan Fitzpatrick tipped home another DeGraves blue line try.
A backhander by Davide Patella found the net at 2:41 of the third to make it 4-0, before the Oilers mounted a comeback attempt with power play goals by Connor Gourley (Calgary, AB) and Ethan O’Halloran (Calgary, AB) cutting the deficit to two. But off a turnover behind the net at 17:19, Jordan Hughesman scored on a wraparound to notch the 5-2 final score.
Okotoks was outshot 30-23 in the game. The team will be on the road Tuesday in Drumheller before returning home to face the Dragons at 7 PM on Friday.
