SHERWOOD PARK, AB (October 21, 2023) — A tight back and forth game turned into another tough loss for the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday night, as the Sherwood Park Crusaders pulled away late in the second, turning a 2-1 lead into a 6-1 victory.
Shots in the game were tied 29-29.
Sherwood Park opened the scoring at 13:06 on a Dominic Payne point shot that found its way in through traffic. Less than a minute later, a hit in the offensive zone by Shayne Tibbles (Calgary, AB) jarred the puck free for Brett Wilson (Calgary, AB) to sneak in and slide a shot home to tie it 1-1.
But Brock Souch scored on a wraparound at 18:23 to make it 2-1.
The one-goal margin lasted until the final three minutes of the second, where the Crusaders scored twice in less than a minute on goals from Luke Lisko on the power play and Noah Wills off the rush.
Cade Christenson then scored on a shot from the circle at 13:23 of the third, and the Crusaders followed up on the next shift with a backdoor goal off the rush by Kale Dach to notch the 6-1 final.
The Oilers head to Drumheller for their next game Thursday night at 7 PM.
