BLACKFALDS, AB (September 23, 2023) — A goaltending duel between Wilson Maxfield and Shane Shelest (Pointe-Claire, PQ) came out in Blackfalds’ favour on Saturday night, with the home side coming back from two one-goal deficits to hand Okotoks its first loss of the season.
A scoreless opening 40 minutes gave way to a busy third in which all six goals were scored; Hunter Sawka (Calgary, AB) and Dean Spak (Calgary, AB) tallied for the Oilers on a penalty shot and power play rebound goal respectively, while Blackfalds responded with goals from Carter Patterson on a shorthanded two-man break, two goals from Brendan Ross off the rush, and an empty netter from Alex Dimitriadis to seal the 4-2 final.
