SPRUCE GROVE, AB (November 12, 2021) ““ The Okotoks Oilers (9-11-1) fell behind 19 seconds in, and dropped their widest loss of the season Friday night, as the Spruce Grove Saints cruised to an 8-2 victory at Grant Fuhr Arena.
Okotoks was outshot 42-32 in the game, dropping to just 3 points up on fifth-place Blackfalds, with two extra games played.
Luigi Benincasa opened the scoring with a breakaway goal in the opening minute, before Cody Pisarczyk doubled the lead at the 6:25 mark. Jayden Davis scored on a power play wrister on a 5 on 3 at 13:52 to give the Saints a 3-0 advantage after 1, outshooting the Oilers 14-8.
Spruce Grove outshot Okotoks 8-0 to start the second, adding another goal from Caiden Gault just after a power play expired on a net front tip for a 4-0 lead. Liam Watkins scored 11 minutes into the period for a 5-0 lead, before Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) got Okotoks on the board, converting on a net front scamble at 17:13.
But the Saints pulled away in the third; Brett Pfoh scored 49 seconds in, then Jaden Senkoe converted on a scramble in front for a 7-1 lead. Pfoh scored his second on a loose puck in the crease at 7:37 to cap off the Spruce Grove scoring. Lorenz scored his second of the game at 12:16 on a sharp angle shot from the side of the net to notch the 8-2 final score.
