Oilers trail South Final 2-0 after 6-1 Game 2 loss

BROOKS, AB (April 9, 2022) ““ Despite a tighter margin in shots, the Okotoks Oilers dropped their second straight lopsided decision Saturday night in Game 2 of the AJHL South Final, falling 6-1 to the host Brooks Bandits.

A back and forth first fell squarely in Brooks”™ favour when key offensive catalyst Brendan Boyle (Lake Country, B.C.) was called for a blow to the head penalty after a light hit in the corner, removing him from the game for twelve minutes and leading to Brooks”™ opening goal on a wrist shot off the rush from Boston Buckberger at the 15:51 mark.

Vociferous protestations from the Okotoks staff after the first period garnered another minor penalty and a subsequent Brooks power play to start the second, which while killed off still set the tone for a four-goal Brooks frame, with two goals by Hunter Wallace combined with singles from Brendan Poshak and Brendan Mairs giving Brooks a 5-1 lead after two, the lead shortened only by a tipped point shot goal from the Oilers”™ Dean Spak (Calgary, AB).

Parker Sawka (Cochrane, AB) relieved Jack McNaughton (Calgary, AB) to start the third, and allowed only one further goal on a similar net front tip by Anthony Cipollone to notch the 6-1 final score.

The Oilers were outshot 33-21 in the game.

The setting now shifts to Okotoks for Games 3 and 4 of the series on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, both of which are scheduled for 7:00 PM at Pason Centennial Arena. Tickets are available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
