OKOTOKS, AB (September 15, 2023) — The Okotoks Oilers have announced that four veteran players will serve as alternate captains alongside second-year team captain Dean Spak (Calgary, AB) this season.
Spak will be assisted by fourth-year forward Brett Huxley (Calgary, AB) as well as defencemen Logan Magowan (Calgary, AB), Kade Turner (Calgary, AB), and Ethan O’Halloran (Calgary, AB).
Huxley, 20, was the team’s third-highest scorer last year with 46 points (16 goals, 30 assists) in 56 games. He joined the team midway through the shortened 2020-21 season after three years with the U18 Calgary Northstars, and has since dressed in 88 games with Okotoks.
Magowan, 20, also enters his fourth year with the Oilers, after debuting in the 2020-21 campaign. He previously wore an “A” with the U18 Calgary Buffaloes in 2019-20, subsequently dressing in 83 regular season games for the Oilers, tallying 21 assists.
Turner, 20, enters his third year with the Oilers and was the team’s highest-scoring defenceman last season with 38 points (6 goals, 32 assists) in 48 games, earning him a commitment to NCAA Division I Ferris State University. Also a former Calgary Buffaloes standout, he has since played in 104 regular season games for Okotoks, tallying 64 points.
O’Halloran, 20, signed with the Oilers this off-season after finishing last year with Cowichan Valley in the BCHL. A graduate of the Calgary U18 Flames, he previously dressed in 90 AJHL games over three seasons with Brooks, including 30 total points and a run to the 2022 Centennial Cup.
