FORT MCMURRAY, AB (November 12, 2022) — The Okotoks Oilers (14-6-3) got four goals from four different goal scorers, including a highlight reel game-winning shorthanded marker from Conyr Hellyer (Okotoks, AB) en route to a 4-2 win over the host Fort McMurray Oil Barons on Saturday night on the road.
With the win, the Oilers remain in sole possession of second place in the AJHL South, two points up on third-place Camrose.

A dominant first period saw the Oilers outshoot the Oil Barons 20-2, but the visitors were rewarded only once, when a power play wrist shot from the left circle by Sam Huck (Calgary, AB) found the back of the net through traffic for his tenth of the year.
Fort McMurray then tied it early in the second on a power play wrister from Ryder Matter, before the Oilers took back the lead when Zeth Kindrachuk (Calgary, AB) tipped a Nick Wolfenberg (Calgary, AB) shot on goal, creating a rebound that Fort McMurray goalie Gabe Gratton accidentally kicked back into the net for a 2-1 lead.
With the Oil Barons pressing on a power play late in the frame, Jamie Weller (Calgary, AB) poked a puck to neutral ice that Hellyer chased down for a partial breakaway. Hauled down from behind, he nonetheless got a spinning shot away while down on the ice that slid past Gratton and gave the Oilers a two-goal lead.
Fort McMurray clawed closer in the third on a goal off the rush from Matthew Gerke, but it would be the final blemish on rookie goalie Alex Scheiwiller (Calgary, AB), who made 24 saves on the night for his third victory of his freshman campaign. Ty Yoder (Tofield, AB) then swept home a setup from Ethan Rowland (Calgary, AB) from behind the net at the 7:58 mark to cap off the scoring.
The Oilers will finish off their northern road swing Sunday afternoon when they head to Bonnyville for a 2:00 PM matinee with the Pontiacs. Pre-game coverage starts at 1:45 PM on The Eagle 100.9 FM.
