The Okotoks Oilers would like to offer their sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Jim “Bearcat” Murray, who passed away today at the age of 89.
A resident of Okotoks since the 1930s, Bearcat was a major contributor to and builder of our organization, with his many appearances at various fundraising and team events helping the team immensely in its greatest times of need.
Known well to season ticket holders across the Centennial Arena, he will be greatly missed by us all.
He served as athletic trainer for the Calgary Flames from 1980 to 1996, capturing the Stanley Cup in 1989. He was also inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009, and is the namesake of the Murray Arena in Okotoks, the original home of the Oilers in their inaugural season.
