Okotoks Oiler alumnus Corban Knight to play for Canadian Olympic Team

OKOTOKS, AB (January 25, 2022) ““ Former Okotoks Oilers forward Corban Knight (Oliver, B.C.) has been named to the Canadian men”™s hockey team for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, it was announced today by Hockey Canada.

Knight, 31, is one of fourteen forwards on the squad that will compete for gold in Beijing, China.

The 6″™1″, 196lb forward was the first Oiler selected in an NHL Draft, going in the fifth round in 2009 to the Florida Panthers after completing a marquee season with Okotoks, scoring 72 points (34 goals, 38 assists) in 61 games, at the time a team record for goals in a season and still the fifth-most by an Oiler in franchise history.

He subsequently played four years for the University of North Dakota before embarking on a professional career that has included stops in Calgary, Florida, and Philadelphia in the NHL.

Knight will open tournament action on February 10th in a preliminary round game against Germany, with the tournament running until February 20th.
