OKOTOKS, AB (June 15, 2023) — The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League have released their 2023-24 season schedule, it was announced today.
The team’s home opener at Okotoks Centennial Arena is set for Saturday, September 16th against the Canmore Eagles, with the regular season concluding on Friday, March 1st with a home game against the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
Okotoks’ 30 home games will feature thirteen Friday nights, eight Saturday nights, three Sunday afternoons, three Tuesday nights, two holiday Monday afternoons on Thanksgiving and New Year’s, and one Tuesday morning School Day Game at 11 AM on February 13th.
All Friday, Saturday, and Tuesday prime time games will begin at 7:00 PM, while all Sunday and holiday Monday games will start at 4:15 PM.
Additional highlights include visits by rival Brooks on Saturday, October 14th and Friday, December 8th, and a season-long five-game homestand which will see the team play at Okotoks Centennial Arena, all on weekends, from November 24th to December 8th. The Oilers will not play more than three consecutive road games at any point in the season.
The schedule will see the Oilers play five times in September, 11 times in October and November, 10 times in December, 12 times in January, and 11 times in February and March combined.
Entering this season, the AJHL has moved to a 62-game schedule with the elimination of the North and South divisions; each team will play 13 of its opponents four times and two opponents five times each, with those two additional games at the annual AJHL Showcase still to be announced in July.
Okotoks will begin the campaign with a five-game preseason schedule, beginning with a home-and-home with the Calgary Canucks in the big city on Labour Day, then in Okotoks on Saturday, September 2nd. Subsequently, the Oilers and Brooks Bandits will play a three-game preseason series, with Brooks playing host on Tuesday, September 5th and Saturday, September 9th, bookending an Oilers home game on Friday, September 8th.
