Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are proud to announce that 2001 born forward, Quinn Olson (Calgary, AB) has committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.
Located in Duluth, Minnesota, the Bulldogs play in the NCAA’s National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) under 19-year Head Coach, Scott Sandelin. The Bulldogs have won four conference championships, participated in 12 NCAA tournaments, including six in the Frozen Four and two NCAA Championship in 2011 and this past year’s title.
Olson, 17, is in his sophomore season with the Oilers where he currently has three points (2 goals, 1 assist) in three games played, with one of them being a game winning goal.
In his rookie season with the Oilers, Olson capped off a strong year where in 59 games played he scored 53 points (14 goals, 39 assists).
Oilers Head Coach / General Manager / Director of Hockey Development Tyler Deis says that Olson’s commitment and growth over the past season has shown us what it takes to get to the next level of his playing career.
“Ever since Quinn put that Oiler jersey on for the first time, we knew we had a special player in our line-up,” he says. “His offensive prowess and hockey IQ will be a welcoming addition to the Bulldogs, it has been an honour and privilege to coach Quinn. We know he’ll be successful in his college hockey career.”
Olson also helped the Oilers on their way to their first AJHL Championship series by recording 10 points (1 goal, 9 assists) in 15 games and he’ll join former Oiler Tanner Laderoute (2015-2018) on the Bulldogs roster.
The Oilers would like to congratulate Quinn and his family on his achievement and to thank them for their dedication to our organization and the Okotoks community both on and off the ice.
Quinn is the 4th Oiler on the 2018-19 roster to commit to a NCAA Division I Institution as he joins:
Dylan Holloway (University of Wisconsin)
Blake Wells (U-Mass Lowell)
Austin Wong (Harvard University)
