Reschny, Weller, Maguire score firsts as Oilers win in Olds 6-2

OLDS, AB (November 30, 2021) ““ The Okotoks Oilers (13-15-1) got first career goals from three rookies, and a two-goal night from veteran forward Brendan Boyle (Lake Country, BC), downing the Olds Grizzlys 6-2 on the road on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Oilers extend their lead over Canmore for fourth place in the AJHL South to 3 points.


Forward Austin Reschny (Macklin, SK) was the first to record his first in the AJHL at the 3:38 mark of the first, scoring on a power play wrist shot from the right circle for a 1-0 Okotoks lead. Boyle got his first of the game with 27 seconds left in the period, tipping in a Brody Maguire point shot.

In the second, Jamie Weller (Calgary, AB) got his first with a wrist shot from the left circle at 1:33, and Brody Maguire (Calgary, AB) did the same on a similar screen shot with 2 seconds left in the period to get his first.

Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) scored on a rebound 3:14 into the third for a 5-0 lead before Olds broke the shutout bid for goalie Jack McNaughton (Calgary, AB) with a Hale Schoneck shot from the high slot at 4:08. Boyle got his second of the game on a breakaway at 12:16, and Olds finished the scoring with a power play goal at 19:31 for a 6-2 final.

Okotoks outshot the Grizzlys 38-33 in the game. They will play a fifth straight road game on Friday night in Calgary against the Canucks before returning home Saturday night to host Calgary at Pason Centennial Arena. Tickets for that game are available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
