OKOTOKS, AB (December 21, 2021) ““ Okotoks Oilers forward Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) has been named the Alberta Junior Hockey League”™s Rookie of the Week, the league announced today.
It”™s the second time the 2004-born forward has won the award, after he was named the winner for the week of October 18th ““ 24th, and the third time an Oilers has won the award, after Bowden Singleton (Calgary, AB) also won it for the week of October 4th ““ 10th.
Lorenz scored six points (three goals, three assists) in two games last week, tallying a goal and two assists in Thursday”™s 6-3 win over Grande Prairie at home and a further two goals and one assist in a narrow 4-3 loss to Drumheller on Friday night on the road.
He now leads all AJHL rookies in goal scoring and is second among all first-year players in total points with 54 (21 goals, 33 assists), which also ranks him fourth overall in the AJHL. The University of Denver commit is also the highest-ranked AJHL player on the current NHL Central Scouting draft rankings, having received a “˜B”™ rating earlier this season.
The Oilers will return from the Christmas break to take on the Calgary Canucks on December 31st at 6:00 PM at Max Bell Centre in Calgary.
