OKOTOKS, AB (November 9, 2022) — In just his second week with the team, Okotoks Oilers defenceman Rylan Brown (Sherwood Park, AB) has been named the most recent AJHL Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today.
Brown, 17, won the award after recording back-to-back multi-point games last week. First, he scored 2 assists in a 5-2 win on the road in Drumheller on Friday, and then followed it up by scoring his first goal as an Oiler and adding a helper in a 5-3 home win over Spruce Grove the following night.
The games were just his third and fourth since joining the Oilers in a trade with Drayton Valley the week prior. He’s currently riding a three-game point streak with a goal and four assists in that span.
Prior to joining Okotoks, Brown was named to the AJHL’s All-Rookie Team last season after his freshman campaign with Drayton Valley. He is the second Oiler to win the award this season, after Nick Wolfenberg won it in the second week of the campaign.
