Rylan Brown wins AJHL Defensive Player of the Week award

OKOTOKS, AB (February 21, 2023) — Okotoks Oilers defenceman Rylan Brown (Sherwood Park, AB) has been named the latest AJHL Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Brown, 18, was the highest scoring defenceman in the league last week, registering five assists in three games, four of which were scored in a career-high performance on Friday night in a 6-1 win over Whitecourt at home.

The Michigan Tech commit is the 17th-highest scoring defenceman in the AJHL this season, with 29 points (3 goals, 26 assists) in 50 games played.

It’s the second time this season that Brown has won the award; he also captured it soon after being acquired by the Oilers from Drayton Valley, in the week of October 31st to November 6th. It’s the fourth time an Oiler has been named winner of the award this season as well; Nick Wolfenberg (Calgary, AB) won it at the end of September and again in mid-November.
