OKOTOKS, AB (November 15, 2022) — Alex Scheiwiller (Calgary, AB) made 27 saves for his first career AJHL shutout, as the Okotoks Oilers (15-7-3) slipped by the host Canmore Eagles 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Connor Gourley (Calgary, AB) scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of the second period shorthanded, speeding out of the penalty box at the conclusion of a 5-on-3 penalty kill for the Oilers, taking a clearance from defenceman Jamie Weller (Calgary, AB), and tucking a backhand shot past goalie Andreai Proctor-Ramirez. The oft-tested Oiler penalty kill went 8 for 8 on the night.

Both teams had penalty shots in the game, with Canmore’s Vincent Scott denied on a backhand try in the second, and Jackson Rowland (Calgary, AB) barely being denied in the third.

Late in the final frame, a scramble in front of the Oiler net saw Conyr Hellyer (Calgary, AB) clear the puck out of the crease, where a waiting Brett Huxley (Calgary, AB) cleared the puck to centre. Hellyer chased it down and fired it into the empty net from the red line to notch the 2-0 final score.

The Oilers will travel to Drumheller on Friday night to take on the host Dragons at 7 PM, with pre-game coverage starting at 6:45 PM on The Eagle 100.9 FM.
