BROOKS, AB (September 4, 2022) – Brody Maguire (Calgary, AB) opened the scoring for Okotoks, and Alex Scheiwiller (Calgary, AB) made 41 saves on 44 shots, but the Okotoks Oilers dropped their first regulation decision of the 2022 preseason 3-1 at the Centennial Regional Arena in Brooks on Sunday afternoon to the host Bandits.
Maguire’s goal came 8:30 into the second period on a feed from veteran forward Dean Spak (Calgary, AB), with the second-year Oiler defenceman beating goaltender Wilson Maxfield with a low wrister to make it 1-0.
But Brooks responded late in the period on a Hunter Wallace one-timer from the slot, before Wallace also gave the Bandits their first lead just 67 seconds into the third period with his second of the day, a cross-crease finish in the first half of a double-minor power play. Dominick Campione scored on a power play one-timer at the 6:33 mark to notch the 3-1 final.
The Oilers are next scheduled to face the Calgary Canucks on Wednesday at a new venue to be determined, due to ice issues in Dewinton, where the game was originally scheduled. Updates will be posted at OkotoksOilers.ca.
