OKOTOKS, AB (October 12, 2021) ““ Okotoks Oilers players have captured two of the Alberta Junior Hockey League”™s weekly awards today, with forward Bowden Singleton (Calgary, AB) being named Rookie of the Week and goaltender Austin Zavoda (Hershey, PA) taking Defensive Player of the Week.
Singleton, 17, recorded 6 points in 3 games in wins over the Olds Grizzlys and twice over Drumheller, with 2 goals and 4 assists. After Monday”™s win over Blackfalds, the University of North Dakota commit now leads the AJHL in scoring with 20 points (7 goals, 13 assists) in 20 games.
Zavoda, 18, recorded a perfect week, allowing no goals in two wins over the Grizzlys and Dragons. He stopped 16 shots on Tuesday in Olds, and 23 in Drumheller on Friday. He now posts a 4-1 record, .926 save percentage, and 1.82 goals against average, ranking him second in the league in GAA and fourth in save percentage.
