Dear Oilers Fans,
Sadly, as you are most likely aware, the Okotoks Oilers 2013-14 season was cut short quite unexpectedly last week as the Olds Grizzlys defeated us in the fifth and deciding game of round one of the Gas Drive Playoffs. With that being said, our season was far from mediocre. Once again, we finished the regular season in second place in the South Division with an overall record of 36 wins, 19 losses and 5 overtime losses for a total of 77 points. The only team to finish ahead of us was the defending RBC Cup Champion Brooks Bandit team who just finished off a second round series versus the Grizzlys four games to zero.
It is at this time of year that we reflect and say thank you to the various groups that make the Oilers Organization as successful as it is. As devoted and loyal fans you are at the top of this list. Your financial support directly benefits the players as it is put right back into the team’s operating budget to help pay for ice, travel expenses, equipment and a variety of other items that a team such as the Oilers requires to operate. Your support in the stands is unbelievable as well. As the new guy with the team I was absolutely overwhelmed by the passion and dedication you have shown to our players on the ice. I don’t think there is a team in the league that has a better relationship with its fans; you made every game feel like a family event.
This year we are saying goodbye to an outstanding group of twenty year olds in Robbie Fisher, Tariq Hammond, Connor Hartley, Jordan Swenson, Max Mowat, Ty Clay and Derek Thorogood, but we also have an amazing group of returning players that can’t wait to get back on the ice and put on a show for you.
Next season is already the Tenth Year of Oilers Junior A Hockey in Okotoks! Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates throughout the summer on special Oilers news and events, and expect more details coming soon on our golf tournament and other exciting events.
Thank you once again for your tremendous support this season and we can’t wait to see you back at the rink in September!
Sincerely,
