OLDS, AB (October 5, 2021) ““ Sam Moshurchak (Calgary, AB) and Ryan Neumann (Calgary, AB) both had their first career AJHL goals, as the Okotoks Oilers (4-3) completed a dominant 7-0 win over the host Olds Grizzlys on Tuesday night.
The Oilers outshot the Grizzlys 38-16 as goaltender Austin Zavoda (Hershey, PA) recorded his first shutout of his career with 16 stops.
Okotoks only scored once in the first period, coming on a Bowden Singleton (Calgary, AB) backdoor wrist shot on a cross-slot setup by Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) at the 8:38 mark.
In the second, Nick Wolfenberg (Calgary, AB) skated end to end and got a shot on Olds goalie Tristan Martin which was stopped; Nolan Flint (Beaverlodge, AB) followed up with a shot, which led to the Grizzlys accidentally pulling the puck into their own net, with the goal credited to Flint at 15:24.
Just 25 seconds later, Carter Massier (Peace River, AB) sped in on a 2-on-1 rush and fed a pass to a streaking-in Moshurchak, who roofed the puck perfectly for his first in the AJHL.
In the third, Conyr Hellyer (Okotoks, AB) scored back to back goals; the first on a net front scramble at 4:29 and the second just 1:18 later when his one-timed a puck home from the slot on the power play.
Just 34 seconds after that, Neumann scored the first of his career on a turnaround wrist shot from the side of the net that snuck in short side. He then added another at 14:01 with a shot off the rush to cap off the scoring.
The Oilers will be on the road Friday in Drumheller to take on the Dragons, before returning home Saturday to host Drumheller again.
