VIDEO: Bodnarchuk scores two as Oilers beat Olds 7-4

OKOTOKS, AB (January 18, 2022) — Riley Bodnarchuk (Okotoks, AB) scored twice, and Connor Gourley (Calgary, AB) scored his first goal as an Oiler, as the Okotoks Oilers took down the visiting Olds Grizzlys 7-4 on Tuesday night at Pason Centennial Arena.

The Oilers outshot the Grizzlys 49-24 in the game, with Parker Sawka (Cochrane, AB) stopping 20 shots for his fourth consecutive win as well.

Brendan Boyle (Lake Country, BC) opened the scoring 8:19 in on a five-hole wrister off the rush, before Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) doubled the lead at 15:36 with a top shelf shot from the slot, extending his point scoring streak to 13 games.

Bodnarchuk”™s first came 2:50 into the second on a deflected point shot, before Gourley tallied on the power play with a backhand rebound goal at 8:52.

But as has been the case often this year, the Oilers got into penalty trouble, and the Grizzlys clawed back on power play goals from Tyler Green and Brendan McBride. Bodnarchuk responded with his second on a wrist shot off the rush at 16:27, before Sam Moshurchak (Calgary, AB) did the same with a similar goal on an odd man rush at 18:15 for a 6-2 Oiler lead.

Olds got a shorthanded breakaway goal from Tanner Klimpke at 6:56 of the third and a backdoor goal from Sheldon Kwiatkowski on another power play at 11:34, but it would be as close as the visitors would get as Ty Yoder (Tofield, AB) scored an insurance marker at 18:55 to seal the 7-4 final.

The Oilers will take on the Camrose Kodiaks at noon on Thursday before returning home to face the Kodiaks on Saturday night at Pason at 7 PM. Tickets are available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
