Video: Huxley scores two, Scheiwiller stops 33, Oilers win in Olds 3-1

OKOTOKS, AB (December 16, 2022) — The Okotoks Oilers (20-11-3) extended their win streak to 4 games on Friday night, downing the Olds Grizzlys 3-1 on the road.

Brett Huxley (Calgary, AB) led the way offensively with two goals, including the game-winner, while rookie goalie Alex Scheiwiller (Calgary, AB) made 33 saves for his sixth win of his young career.

Olds had the advantage after the first, with Jayden Watson scoring at the 12:15 mark on a rebound to give the home side a 1-0 lead. Scheiwiller stopped Sheldon Kwiatkowski on a breakaway later in the period that would end up being a pivotal save, as the Oilers would go on to dominate the second period. Huxley scored his first at the 2:10 mark just as a 4-on-4 sequence gave way to an Oiler power play, speeding in on a breakaway and roofing a backhander by goalie Marcus Cumberworth to tie the game 1-1.

At the 9:08 mark, with the Oilers on a power play again, Kade Turner (Calgary, AB) fed a pass from the high slot to a waiting Ty Yoder (Tofield, AB) at the left circle, whose one-time blast deflected off Huxley’s stick and in for a 2-1 Oiler lead.

Okotoks then scored the only goal of the third when Shayne Tibbles (Calgary, AB) took a clearance away at the right halfboards, and fluttered the puck in front for Nolan Flint (Beaverlodge, AB) to snap home his seventh of the year for a 3-1 final score, as Scheiwiller made a whopping 19 saves in the third to secure the win.

The Oilers will travel to Calgary on Saturday afternoon for a 5 PM puck drop at Max Bell Centre. Pre-game coverage starts at 4:45 PM on The Eagle 100.9.
