Olds had the advantage after the first, with Jayden Watson scoring at the 12:15 mark on a rebound to give the home side a 1-0 lead. Scheiwiller stopped Sheldon Kwiatkowski on a breakaway later in the period that would end up being a pivotal save, as the Oilers would go on to dominate the second period. Huxley scored his first at the 2:10 mark just as a 4-on-4 sequence gave way to an Oiler power play, speeding in on a breakaway and roofing a backhander by goalie Marcus Cumberworth to tie the game 1-1.
At the 9:08 mark, with the Oilers on a power play again, Kade Turner (Calgary, AB) fed a pass from the high slot to a waiting Ty Yoder (Tofield, AB) at the left circle, whose one-time blast deflected off Huxley’s stick and in for a 2-1 Oiler lead.
Okotoks then scored the only goal of the third when Shayne Tibbles (Calgary, AB) took a clearance away at the right halfboards, and fluttered the puck in front for Nolan Flint (Beaverlodge, AB) to snap home his seventh of the year for a 3-1 final score, as Scheiwiller made a whopping 19 saves in the third to secure the win.
The Oilers will travel to Calgary on Saturday afternoon for a 5 PM puck drop at Max Bell Centre. Pre-game coverage starts at 4:45 PM on The Eagle 100.9.
