BLACKFALDS, AB (December 8, 2021) ““ Kade Turner (Calgary, AB) broke a 2-2 deadlock in the third period with his second goal in two games, and the Okotoks Oilers (15-16-1) took down the Blackfalds Bulldogs (12-16-1) by a 4-2 final score on Wednesday night.
The win extends the Oilers”™ lead over Canmore for fourth place in the AJHL South to 5 points, with a 6 point lead over Blackfalds with the Bulldogs holding 3 games in hand.
Dean Spak (Calgary, AB) opened the scoring with a rebound goal 3:22 into the game, before Blackfalds stormed back with back to back goals from Jayden Joly on the power play and Brett Meerman on a backdoor tap in for a 2-1 lead for the home side.
A scoreless second period gave way to an Okotoks comeback in the third, beginning when Sam Huck (Calgary, AB) scored a rebound goal 2:35 into the final frame. At the 6:55 mark, a long point shot by Turner found its way through a maze of bodies and into the Blackfalds net for a 3-2 Oiler lead, and Brody Maguire (Calgary, AB) iced it with 39 seconds left with an empty net goal from the red line.
Goaltender Jack McNaughton (Calgary, AB) made 20 saves on 22 shots to extend his record to 5-1 as an Oiler.
