OLDS, AB (September 19, 2023) — Jagger Tapper (Calgary, AB) tallied twice, while Logan Magowan (Calgary, AB) and Brett Wilson (Calgary, AB) scored big firsts in a 5-2 Oilers win in Olds on Tuesday night, moving the team to 3-0.
Alex Scheiwiller (Calgary, AB) stopped 30 of 32 shots for the win in his season debut, as the Oilers outshot Olds 53-32 in the game.
Tapper’s first came just 1:18 into the first period as he sped by a defender and tucked a low breakaway shot by goalie Aiden Comeau. In the second, Magowan scored his first-ever regular season AJHL goal when he one-timed home a centering pass from Connor Gourley (Calgary, AB) just 34 seconds in. With Olds on the power play, Wilson then stole the puck in front of the net, delayed and ripped a puck over a downed Comeau and into the net for his first AJHL goal and a 3-0 lead. Just over a minute later, as that penalty expired, Hunter Sawka (Calgary, AB) found a fresh out of the box Tapper who one-timed home a pass across on a 2-on-1 for a 4-0 lead.
Olds got one back on the power play at 15:03 on a Gaige Giblin rebound shot, but Dean Spak (Calgary, AB) converted on a power play rebound goal at 2:47 of the third to restore the four-goal lead. Olds got the final goal with less than 20 seconds left on a Cade Moxham point shot tip.
The Oilers will host the Blackfalds Bulldogs on Friday night with a 4-0 start to the season within reach. Tickets are available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca
