VIDEO: Oilers drop 5-1 decision to Brooks at home

OKOTOKS, AB (October 29, 2021) ““ The Okotoks Oilers (8-7-1) dropped their fifth consecutive home game on Friday night, dropping a 5-1 final to the visiting Brooks Bandits.

The Oilers were outshot 36-18 in the game, going 0 for 3 on the power play and not being sent to the penalty kill all game.

A fast-paced first period saw only one goal; a perfectly-placed Anthony Cipollone wrister on a great cross-crease setup from Aiden Fink after an Oiler turnover at their own blue line.

Brooks dominated the second, however, outshooting the Oilers 19-7 and converting twice. First, Brendan Poshak scored on a net front scramble, dislodging a puck from under Parker Sawka”™s right pad to make it 2-0. TJ Hughes made it 3-0 at the 16:28 mark, finishing off a shot from the left side after a lengthy Brooks offensive zone shift.

In the final minute, Okotoks did get on the board when Nolan Flint (Beaverlodge, AB) tapped one home after a 2-on-1 setup by Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB).

But it would be the only marker on the night for Okotoks; Brooks sealed it with a Hughie Hooker point shot at 3:29 of the third, and then capped it off with a Brendan Mairs tip of a Brendan Kennette point shot to notch the 5-1 final.

The teams will meet again for a rematch on Saturday night in Brooks at 7:00 PM. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:45 PM on The Eagle 100.9 with Gino De Paoli.
