VIDEO: Oilers drop overtime thriller 4-3 to Lloydminster

OKOTOKS, AB (October 22, 2021) ““ Zafir Rawji scored 1:46 into the extra frame, as the Okotoks Oilers (7-6) fell just short after erasing two deficits, dropping a 4-3 overtime final to the Lloydminster Bobcats on Friday night.

The Oilers outshot their opposition by a hefty 37-23 margin, yet saw their losing streak extend to three games.

In the first, Okotoks came out firing, outshooting the visitors 13-4, but saw no pucks find the back of the net.

Lloydminster broke the tie 4:56 into the second period, when Mack Stewart scored on a low wrist shot, beating goalie Austin Zavoda (Hershey, PA). But it took the Oilers just 53 seconds to respond, when Bowden Singleton (Calgary, AB) sniped his eighth of the season on the power play. The Oilers then took the lead just under 5 minutes later, when Dean Spak (Calgary, AB) scored on a rebound of a Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) power play shot.

But Lloydminster stormed back in the third, with Stewart scoring his second just 4:24 in and Ryan Schendel notching the go-ahead goal less than a minute later. It took a dramatic goal from rookie defenceman Kade Turner (Calgary, AB) at the 8:09 mark, a well placed wrister from the left side, for the Oilers to force overtime, where Rawji scored on a top shelf shot after rushing in on the left side.

The Oilers will host Whitecourt on Saturday night to cap off their lengthy seven-game homestand at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca
