OKOTOKS, AB (October 8, 2022) — Despite opening the scoring on the first shot of the game, the Okotoks Oilers (4-5) were held off the scoresheet the rest of the way, dropping a 4-1 decision to the visiting Brooks Bandits on Saturday night.
The Oilers were outshot 34-23 in the game, going 0 for 8 on the power play as well.
Nolan Flint (Beaverlodge, AB) had the opening goal on a shot off the rush just 27 seconds in that took a deflection off a defender’s skate and ricocheted past Brooks goalie Ethan Barwick.
But Brooks stormed back with a rebound goal from Brendan Poshak to tie it at the 6:55 mark, before Caelan Fitzpatrick tipped home a Poshak shot at 14:46, provoking a goalie switch from Okotoks as Parker Sawka (Cochrane, AB) was swapped for Alex Scheiwiller (Calgary, AB).
With just 3:02 left in the first, Aiden Fink scored from the net front on the power play to make it 3-1.
Sawka returned in the second and stopped 21 of 22 shots the rest of the way, the only blemish being an Elliot Dutil goal at the 11:28 mark of the 2nd.
The Oilers continue their longest homestand of the season with a Thanksgiving Day game against the Olds Grizzlys at 4:15 PM on Monday. Youth tickets are free, with fans invited for a free Skate with the Oilers after the game as well. Tickets are available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
