VIDEO: Oilers fall for eighth straight at home, 4-2 to Canucks

OKOTOKS, AB (November 16, 2021) ““ The Okotoks Oilers (9-13-1) lost their third straight game, and eighth consecutive home game, as a third-period comeback against the visiting Calgary Canucks fell just short by a 4-2 margin on Tuesday night at Pason Centennial Arena.

With the loss, the Oilers are now only one point ahead of the Canmore Eagles for 4th place in the AJHL South.

Okotoks outshot their opposition 40-21 in the game, but Calgary goalie Ty Young made 38 stops to secure just the sixth win of the season for the Canucks.

The first period saw the Oilers outshoot Calgary by a whopping 19-4 margin, but the only goal came on a Ben Kotylak one-timer on a 2-on-1 rush, Calgary”™s first shot of the game, giving them a 1-0 lead.

In the second, the Canucks doubled the lead when a point shot ricocheted off of one Oiler”™s stick, and another”™s skate, and pinballed perfectly to Matthew Brunton for a tap in from the side of the net at the 5:44 mark. The Oilers doubled the Canucks in shots 12-6 in the period, but trailed 2-0.

In the third, the Oilers stormed back with two consecutive power play goals. First, Bowden Singleton (Calgary, AB) sniped a wrist shot from the left corner to get his team on the board at 4:56. Then, at 7:30, Brendan Boyle (Lake Country, B.C.) fired home a backhander from the slot to tie the game in his first game back from injury.

But the Canucks got the last laugh after the Oilers took a high sticking double minor, and Kotylak scored his second of the game on a net front scramble for a 3-2 lead. Daxton Budd added the empty netter at 19:12 to seal the 4-2 final score.

The Oilers will hit the road on Friday to take on the Canmore Eagles before returning on Saturday night for a home matchup with the Olds Grizzlys at 7 PM. Tickets are available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
