OKOTOKS, AB (October 23, 2021) ““ Despite another shot advantage, and erasure of a mid-game deficit, the Okotoks Oilers (7-6-1) saw their losing streak extend to four games on Saturday night, dropping a 3-2 decision to the visiting Whitecourt Wolverines.
The Oilers outshot Whitecourt 34-30 in the game as Austin Zavoda (Hershey, PA) made 27 saves, but a lone third period goal from Whitecourt”™s Thomas Vela just 1:10 in ended up being the difference maker.
The home side Oilers opened the scoring 7:03 into the game when Sam Huck (Calgary, AB) collected a rebound in the slot and fired it in, giving Okotoks a 1-0 lead after the first.
Whitecourt struck quickly in the second, though, on back to back power play goals from Chase Broda at the 7:52 and 8:55 marks. Okotoks tied it with just 1:18 left when Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) sped in along the left side and sniped a top-shelf wrister for a 2-2 score.
But Vela”™s game winner sealed it, when he was found all alone in front of the net after an Oiler defensive zone turnover, and flipped home a backhander for a 3-2 final.
The Oilers will hit the road on Tuesday to take on the Olds Grizzlys at 7:30 PM. The game can be heard live on The Eagle 100.9 starting at 7:15.
