VIDEO: Oilers fall in dying seconds in Calgary, 3-2

CALGARY, AB (December 3, 2021) ““ Matthew Brunton scored with 9 seconds left in the game to break a 2-2 deadlock as the Okotoks Oilers (13-16-1) lost 3-2 to the host Calgary Canucks on Friday night.

The loss shrinks the Oilers”™ lead over Canmore for fourth in the AJHL South to just one point, with Blackfalds just 2 points back with 3 games in hand.

A dominant first period for Okotoks saw the visitors outshoot Calgary 15-3, but only one goal came from it, with Riley Bodnarchuk (Okotoks, AB) scoring on a slap shot from the point at 11:24.

Calgary tied it on a Caden Steinke power play goal at 12:12 of the second with a two-man advantage, and then took the lead on a power play early in the third with a Justin Barker goal 49 seconds in.

The Oilers tied it on a Conyr Hellyer (Okotoks, AB) one-timer from the front of the net at 6:35, but Brunton”™s goal on a backdoor feed in the final seconds sealed the regulation win for Calgary, their second in as many games against Okotoks, despite a 36-25 Oiler shot advantage.
