OKOTOKS, AB (January 28, 2022) ““ The Okotoks Oilers (24-21-2) saw their home ice win streak end at six games, as the visiting Drayton Valley Thunder took a Friday night matchup 3-1 at Pason Centennial Arena.
The Oilers were outshot 30-23 in the game, giving up five power play opportunities including a first period double minor and a lengthy five on three in the second period.
The double minor, called by a linesman for high sticking late in the first, led to the Thunder”™s opening goal, a Kadyn Chabot rebound tap-in at the 16:40 mark.
In the second, Ethan Browne doubled the Thunder advantage, scoring on a wrist shot from the slot off a defensive zone turnover to make it 2-0 just 1:09 in. Okotoks responded with a perfectly placed wrist shot by rookie Conyr Hellyer (Okotoks, AB) at 8:54 on a two-on-one rush, but DV reclaimed a two goal lead at 16:23 on a Brett Bamber one-timer at 16:23.
Despite killing off the eventual two-man disadvantage later in the second, the Oilers couldn”™t solve Jackson Berry the rest of the way, as the Thunder goaltender made 22 saves for the win. Parker Sawka (Cochrane, AB) was 27 for 30 in the Oiler net.
Okotoks will hit the road Saturday to take on the Blackfalds Bulldogs at 6 PM. Pre-game coverage starts at 5:45 on The Eagle 100.9.
