VIDEO: Oilers kill 7 PKs, extend win streak to 3 with 2-1 win over Sherwood Park

OKOTOKS, AB (January 14, 2022) ““ The Okotoks Oilers (20-19-2) went 7 for 8 on the penalty kill, outshot their opposition 29-24, and got goals from Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) and Ty Yoder (Tofield, AB) in a 2-1 home win over the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Friday night.

Jack McNaughton (Calgary, AB) made 23 saves on the night to extend his record as an Oiler to 8-4-1.

The Oilers”™ opening goal came 10:17 into the game on the team”™s second penalty kill of the game. A sensational stretch pass by defenceman Logan Magowan (Calgary, AB) found Lorenz for a breakaway, which he converted on with a point blank forehand shot to make it 1-0.

Sherwood Park equalized at the 4:12 mark on a Zac Maxwell rebound goal on the power play, but McNaughton kept things close, denying Logan Hauer on a perfect cross-crease shot off the rush with a diving save.

That allowed Yoder to score the difference maker at 12:54 when he took another excellent long stretch pass from rookie Jamie Weller (Calgary, AB), springing the veteran on a 2-on-1 rush along the left side. Yoder sniped a low wrister to give Okotoks a 2-1 lead, which would hold through to the final buzzer, with Okotoks outshooting the visitors 12-5 in a scoreless third to lock down the win.

The Oilers will hit the road Saturday night to look for a fourth straight win, taking on the Drumheller Dragons at 7 PM. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:45 on The Eagle 100.9.
