CAMROSE, AB (January 20, 2022) ““ The Okotoks Oilers (22-20-2) got five goals from five different goal scorers, rebounding from a 1-0 deficit after the first to down the Camrose Kodiaks 5-2 on Thursday afternoon at Encana Arena, in front of an announced crowd of 268.
The win narrows the Oilers”™ deficit to 7 points behind Drumheller for third in the AJHL South, and ten points behind Camrose for second with a game in hand.
Camrose”™s opening goal came with 4:55 left in the first on a 3-on-1 rush from Tio D”™Addario moments after the Oilers barely failed to convert on a 2-on-1 rush of their own.
Facing a 1-0 deficit and being outshot 9-6, the Oilers would go on to outscore Camrose 5-1 the rest of the way and outshoot the home side 22-13 in the process.
Austin Reschny (Macklin, SK) deflected home a pass from Ethan Jamernik (Calgary, AB) off the rush at 2:19 to tie the game, before Dean Spak (Calgary, AB) gave the Oilers their first lead on a wrist shot from the left side at 7:34.
In the third, a Bodnarchuk point shot gave the veteran defenceman his third goal in two games, and his team a 3-1 lead, at 3:44. Roc Truman scored for the Kodiaks on the power play at 8:57 to cut the deficit to one, but Ty Yoder (Tofield, AB) responded with a rebound goal at 14:05 to make it 4-2. Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) scored on the empty net from the red line on a late penalty kill at 18:44 to seal the 5-2 final score.
The Oilers outshot the Kodiaks 28-22 in the game, with goaltender Jack McNaughton (Calgary, AB) making 20 saves to extend his record to 9-5-1.
