OKOTOKS, AB (February 4, 2023) — Parker Sawka (Cochrane, AB) made 18 saves, as the Okotoks Oilers got goals from Jagger Tapper (Calgary, AB) and Sam Huck (Calgary, AB) en route to a 2-1 nailbiting win over the Camrose Kodiaks on Saturday night.
The Oilers were up against a terrific goaltending performance from Camrose starter Freddie Halyk, who stopped 32 of 34 Oiler shots.
Tapper’s opener came just 6:18 into the first period when he cut to the slot and slid a turnaround shot by Halyk to make it 1-0 Oilers.
After a scoreless second, Huck nearly doubled the lead on a shorthanded breakaway but was stymied by Halyk on a backhand. A few shifts later, off a defensive zone faceoff, Huck chased down the puck at the neutral zone and sped in on another breakaway, this time flipping a forehand shot by Halyk for a 2-0 lead.
Nathan Sullivan got Camrose on the board with a screen shot at 14:37, but Lucas Lemieux hit the post on a similar shot a few shifts later, and the Oilers held on for the 2-1 win.
The team will host Brooks on Friday night to try to extend the home winning streak to 11 games. Tickets are available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
