CALGARY, AB (August 31, 2021) ““ The Okotoks Oilers opened their 2021 pre-season with a 3-1 win over the Calgary Canucks on Tuesday afternoon at Cardel Rec South in Calgary, in their first game in front of a full crowd since February of 2020, a more than year-and-a-half span.
Okotoks opened the scoring late in the first period when Brody Spencer-Ha (Foothills County, AB) tapped home a rebound of a Jake McCall (Parker, CO) shot. In the second, they doubled the lead off the rush when Jackson Rowland (Calgary, AB) fed a perfect cross-slot pass to Bennett Johnson (Lindstrom, MN) for a quick tip home and a 2-0 Okotoks lead.
Calgary cut the deficit in half on a Shaw Cathcart goal later in the second, but the Oilers sealed it with an Ethan Jamernik (Calgary, AB) empty netter from the opposing blue line with just over a minute left.
The teams will play twice this coming weekend; first in Okotoks at Pason Centennial Arena on Friday night, then in Calgary at Henry Viney Arena on Saturday. Both games are at 7 PM with tickets for Friday available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
