VIDEO: Spak scores record-fast goal as Oilers snap skid with 4-1 win in Olds

OLDS, AB (October 26, 2021) ““ Dean Spak (Calgary, AB) set a franchise record, scoring just eight seconds into the game, as the Okotoks Oilers (8-6-1) broke their four-game losing streak with a decisive 4-1 win in Olds over the Grizzlys on Tuesday night.

Spak”™s goal was the quickest from the start of a game ever scored by an Oiler, and the eighth-fastest in the history of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, as he scored on a quick wrist shot from the left circle soon after the opening faceoff.

It would be the only marker of the opening frame, as the next one didn”™t come until 9:35 into the second, when affiliate defenceman Jace Moffatt (Cochrane, AB) fired a long wrist shot from the left point that made its way past goalie Tristan Martin to double the lead.

With fewer than three minutes left in the frame, forward Ty Yoder (Tofield, AB) notched his first goal since coming to the Oilers when he deflected a pass in front from Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB), an attempt which was initially stopped by Martin before Yoder tapped in his own rebound to make it 3-0.

Olds got on the board with an August Olson goal off the rush 3:49 into the third, but it would be the only blemish on the night for goalie Parker Sawka (Cochrane, AB), who made 21 saves on 22 shots in his return to the lineup.

Yoder capped off the scoring with his second of the game at the 9:26 mark, deflecting in a shot on the power play to notch the 4-1 final score.
The Oilers outshot Olds 32-22 in the game.

They will return home for a long-awaited rivalry matchup with the Brooks Bandits on Friday night at Pason Centennial Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM with tickets available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca.
