Okotoks was dealt an early blow when veteran forward Carter Massier (Peace River, AB) was ejected just 68 seconds into the game on a check from behind minor. But the Oilers killed off that and a second power play for Blackfalds in the first period, keeping the game scoreless and more than doubling their opponents in shots 15-7.
The visitors exploded for three goals in the second; Lorenz”™s first came just 1:02 in on a long shot from the left half wall, and Bodnarchuk”™s first came at 4:48 on a perfectly placed wrist shot from the right side. Lorenz added his second at the 7:47 mark on a top shelf snipe off the rush to make it 3-0, before Connor Poffenroth scored at 9:54 on a backdoor one timer to get Blackfalds on the board.
But the Oilers pulled away in the third, adding a shorthanded breakaway goal from Dean Spak (Calgary, AB) at 14:04, and a power play shot off the rush from Bodnarchuk with 38 seconds left to seal the 5-1 final.
The Oilers will return home to host the Olds Grizzlys on Tuesday night at Pason Centennial Arena at 7 PM. Tickets are available online at tickets.okotoksoilers.ca
