It was a great weekend to be an Oilers fan these past few days (but isn't it always?). The boys headed North for a three game, three day roadtrip that would be sure to put a strain on any team in the AJHL.
The weekend started on Friday night as the Green and Gold charged into Drayton Valley to play the Thunder. After a goal from Amatto tied things up in the first period, the flood gates opened in the second where goals from Firkus, Edwardh and Collett put the Oilers up 4-1. In the third period Amatto tallied his second to lead the Oilers to a 5-1 victory to start the weekend off right.
Game two of the weekend saw the Oilers head further North to Grande Prairie where they took on the Storm. Although the score shows a much closer game, the Oilers were firmly in the lead the whole game. A pair of goals from Assistant Captain Connor Hartley in the first and second periods led the Oilers to a 2-1 victory with Ian McLellan from the Storm scoring their lone goal with 14 seconds left in the game.
Sunday afternoon is when the fun really started to take place for the Oilers. In an afternoon game against the home town Wolverines, the Oilers really began to click. Led by a three goal performance from John Edwardh, the Oilers routed the Wolverines 9-2. The powerplay unit lit it up, scoring on 6 of 8 tries. Other goals came from Ty Clay, Jake Dube, Rhett Gardner, Jordan Swenson, Mitch Collett and Tariq Hammond.
The Oilers are now only a single point behind Brooks for the first place spot in the AJHL South Division.
